Coaches and Risk Management:

Coaches and assistant coaches have to be risk management approved before they can coach or even attend a practice, as well as have a current background check approved. Backgrounds checks can be initiated in the Got Sport platform and are good for 1 year.  Coaches will need to be added to the KYSA GOT Sport Risk Management portal by Julie Hegerty with NKSL, which is also called the Players Health Protect Risk Management System, prior to the season beginning in order for them to complete the risk management process. This task is completed by a league admin after you successfully register as a coach in Demosphere.   ALL coaches will be required to complete Safe Sport Training and Heads Up Concussion training through the CDC, even if they did it in the past, you will need to complete a refresher. Don't shoot the messengers here... Then there will be annual maintence after that. We are all in the same boat, its a fresh slate and change initiated at the State level.

Risk Management components – a coach is not approved to coach any practice or games until all of the components are completed and approved. 

• Background check - is good for 1 year
• Estimated time is 30 min or less to log in and answer the questions to initiate the process for the background check
• Background approval can take up to 2 weeks once an individual has initiated the process
• Safesport training - is good for 1 year from the date the training is completed

•    The first time a coach attends the Core Safesport training it will take about 90  min to complete all of the trainings in the module
• All coaches that continue to coach after the first year will be required to renew the Safesport training annually in  July. 

SafeSport follows a 4-year cycle:

• Year 1: Core training

• Years 2–4: Refreshers 1, 2, and 3

• Then the cycle restarts

Email reminders will be sent from the system the day before expiration date:

•  The 2nd, 3rd & 4th year Safesport refresher course takes approximately 30 min each year to complete the requirement to maintain compliance for Risk Management

Heads Up Training is good for 2 years.
